Due to multiple technical snags deprived Bengaluru’s Akhil Rabindra and his team from continuing their Podium run in the 24h endurance race at Portimao, Portugal.
The race that took place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portugal last weekend witnessed participation from 28 teams including ProSport Performance team of Akhil with his teammates Rodrigue Gillion (Germany), Mike-David Ortmann (Germany) and Nico Verdonck (Belgium) and were driving the Aston Marting Vantage GT4 car.
The Pro Sport Performance team comprising of Akhil Rabindra qualified at P2, but unfortunate technical snags saw them lose around 20 laps, making them fall behind the leading teams. An irreparable exhaust issue resulted in retiring from the race at Portimao, Portugal bringing an end to their podium run.
This was the fourth race of the season and Akhil along with his teammates had three consecutive podium finishes in the GT4 class in the last three 24h races. The ProSports Performance were leading the class in the championship, but due to this unfortunate situation now they stand second, while Akhil is also placed second in the Junior Cup Category which he was leading before the start of the race.
Akhil who hails from Bangalore, India is the only Asian to have made it to the prestigious Aston Martin Racing Drivers academy earlier this year. drove the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 car. Akhil will be racing for the GT4 European Series next at the Circuit Zandvoort, Netherlands.
