The right-handed lawn tennis player kick started her career in tennis when she was in 5th grade. Seeing her brother playing tennis, who was also a tennis player inspired her and that’s how she stepped on to the court. She truly believes that her parents are the most prized possessions in her life, who stood by her during her ups and downs.
Are you a Predator or a Buddha when you on field?
When I am on the field I am definitely a predator. I truly believe that only then I can showcase my fullest in the match. But when I am off court I am a Buddha.
Any rituals you follow
Before entering the court, I make sure that I am ready for the match both physically and mentally. I listen to music to boost me up so that I can put my best for the match.
Lamest excuse you have ever given to your teacher?
I always come up with some stories. I always make my teacher believe that I did have practice session and I am having muscle cramps. The funniest part is that she does not believe in any of my cooked-up stories.
What does it mean to you to represent India?
To represent India is a dream come true. It is a whole responsibility to represent your country. To see your flag flying high above all other flags is the best moment that any athlete would wish for.
How will you want to be known in 10 years from now?
I want to be known as the best tennis player that the world has ever witnessed. I would strive my best to achieve. Moreover, I wish to increase the medal tally for our country.
Area of your game you need to improve?
I think I will have to improve my fitness. As an athlete, the basic necessity is to be physically fit enough. Only then one can excel in sports career.
Is sports a natural talent or a skill that is developed?
I believe that an athlete is born to excel but at the same time it must be nurtured well enough. If the talent is not nurtured well, then the athlete can never be brought to light.
Perks of being an athlete
When you know that you can achieve anything if one believes in oneself that’s when you can scale heights, the determination level of athletes is something to be admired.
Who had the greatest influence in your life
I think my parents & brother had the greatest influence in my life. They are the people who were always by my side. During my ups and downs I had to tackle a lot many problems both physically and mentally I thank them for the support that they always give me.
Common road blocks that stop athletes from achieving their dreams?
There are so many hurdles that pulls down an athlete but I think basically financial difficulties matters the most and then it is the injuries.
One moment that you won’t forget
When I was felicitated in my college for the first time and my parents were really happy about it. I think that is one moment that I cannot forget in my life.
Your naughtiest moment during school days
I used to bunk classes, chit-chat with my friends on the ground. This was the favorite pass time that I have ever had during my school days.

M.S. Dhoni: The untold story is the best sports movie that I have seen. It shows all the hardships that an athlete will have to go through. The movie clearly shows that if we truly believe in our own talent we can achieve what we wished for. No matter what ever the obstacles be.

Toughest punishment given to me by my coach was when I was asked to perfect my back-hand.
My short-term goal is to play and win in the WTA & my long-term goal would be to win the Grand Slam title.
