The Indian Para Swimmer is ranked No 12th & 1st in the World and National level. His first match where he made the Indian flag fly high was by bagging a medal in IWAS World Games 2009, Bangalore. Wins & failures comes secondary for him, what matters is hard work. He dreams to bring forth the myriad athletes from rural area to lime light one day. He wants to start a swimming academy by himself, to make the unknown known.

Initial hurdles you faced

While swimming, I usually get pain in the right side of the stomach due to lack of know – how about diet. I could not maintain my body weight, I hadn’t known about weight training.

After the incident, I went to meet a dietician he said to take proper diet and maintain the diet, I followed it and maintained my body weight. I went to a gym trainer and I started to do weight training. This way, I resolved the problem.

Perks of being an athlete

Hard work can take you to great heights. Wins and defeats are secondary when it comes to an athlete’s life. I would like to work hard that gives me more happiness.

One habit that you want to break or you have broken?

As an athlete, I will have to follow certain diet to be physically fit enough. But I never used to follow the diet but after a period I started to maintain diet.

What drives you to go for training every day?

I need to achieve medals for my county. It would be the proudest moment in my life. It will wrap up my whole dream that I had. More over my dream would be fulfilled when I achieve it in TOKYO 2020.

One race that you are proud of

Till now I am not satisfied with my performance so waiting for the proud movement.

Which animal best represents you and why?

I think horse would aptly represent me. In swimming, speed does matters a lot so to strike the clock at the earliest can change the race.

Which is more logical to follow – your heart or your head?

I believe head would be more logical. Head tells you when to act, what to do, how to tackle up. If it is something related to my emotional side I would listen to my heart.

If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of another athlete, who would it be?

I would wake up as Sachin Tendulkar and I would go meet the athletes and would try to sort out their problems.

Lamest excuse ever given to your teacher?

When I was not able to push my-self while hard training that time I always tell to my coach that I cannot push myself more than this.

What does it mean to you to represent India?

I must say that I am a very lucky person that I represented India at an International level. It is this Nation that gave me a chance to participate in International tournaments.

Your ultimate achievement?

After starting my swimming academy, I want to train swimmers who have the caliber to win a medal in International tournaments and in Olympics.

How will you want to be known in 10 years from now?

In the near future, I will see myself as a very successful, famous, good disciplined sports person in National & International level.

Best sports movie ever

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag the movie clearly shows how dedicated Milka Singh was, his sincerity, his attitude towards sports and his discipline. I learned how to compete in difficult circumstances from this movie.

“Compete with me, with all your efforts”
